You may be able to apply for compensation for a cancelled, delayed, overbooked or rescheduled flight depending on the circumstances. There are specific rules governing when compensation is not due. Read more about these rules on the European Commission’s website.
If your flight is delayed by three hours or more, you may be entitled to compensation as well as care (meals, communications and accommodation) during your wait. The amount of compensation depends on the length of time you are delayed and the distance of the flight.
In some cases, airlines may reduce the compensation by 50% if, for example, the airline has done everything possible to limit your delay.
If your flight gets cancelled, and you were informed of the cancellation less than 14 days prior to the departure date, you may be entitled to receive compensation for the cancellation in addition to a refund or the re-routing of your flight.

If a flight is overbooked and not enough passengers are prepared to give up their seat, the airline may deny certain passengers to board the flight. If this happens, you are entitled to an alternative flight and a full ticket refund. Along with a right to certain care (meals, communications and accommodation), you also have a right to financial compensation if you opt for an alternative flight due to overbooking.
